George or Joburg town?
George is well known as the perfect destination for a family holiday. The townies, as stupid as we may be, open our arms in welcoming. And for that one time of the year, George changes from a beautiful town/city, into Pretoria or Joburg town. Why?
Well, let me tell you why.
You always know when the first sign of tourists has arrived. You can call it Townie sense, Townie tingle, I do not know. But as soon as the traffic becomes unbearable and everyone drives like maniacs, you know, like driving right through a traffic circle. The first wave vacationers have arrived.
The second thing you notice is that the prices of almost everything doubles. As a townie that lives here, it even becomes too expensive for us in December.
The third is the mall, which is obvious of course because then there are lines that go out of the cinema and stop at the exit of the mall. Like, what even? So you guess it. Movies in the cinema is a no-no in December. So we townies, end up movie marathoning at home.
The fourth is that the beaches are full of white, pale, people that do things, we townies, don't do. For example, it is raining in George, the wind is strong and the sun is non-existent, you would think that no one would be on the beach, right? WRONG. So far, it is usually only surfers that have enough courage for lapping cold waves while wearing wetsuits, until you see a pale person, barely wearing anything, running towards the ocean and belly flops onto the upcoming wave. You stare, and you identify them as a vacationer.
The fifth is that no matter what the weather is, the mall is packed. "Oh dear, it is raining, let's go to the mall," and "Oh my, it is so hot today, let's go the mall." The townies are starting to wonder if Joburg even has a mall.
The sixth, no offence but we can see who is a vacationer by the way they dress. You'd think a townie would wear flip flops 24/7, try barefoot. Most townies hate shoes.
For example, a vacationer would usually wear flip flops with khaki shorts (the most male species that is not from George).
Our daily deeds as ordinary South Africans must produce an actual South African reality that will reinforce humanity’s belief in justice, strengthen its confidence in the nobility of the human soul, and sustain all our hopes for a glorious life for all.
