It has been a while since my dramatic titles caused a fuss. I am so excited about this touchy subject that I felt the need to celebrate with a cup of Starbucks coffee while writing this. But, is it necessary to create a fuss? Yes, Karen, it is. Because some people out there in this big ass world of ours are being hijacked/murdered/robbed. I have had the privilege to have some experience in that department. And I've learnt over the years how strange police officers can be.
But before we go more into details, welcome to Pretoria Secrets. Aye, we moved. Do I like it? Nope and no one said I had to. But here I am, being a good wifey.
Anyway, back to the title.
Before I start my story, I just want to make a few things clear.
My uncle is in the police department, and he is an amazing man that truly wants to do the right thing.
My post today DOES NOT involve all police officers. There are some genuine police officers out there in this messed up world.
This post is about a personal experience.
I am rather new in this Gauteng area, and I already want to go back to George Gossip town. Less politic, if you ask me. Yes, Karen, I dress like I am supposed to be on a beach, but that is because I am from a beach town. People here really do not appreciate my fashion sense. Just like they didn't appreciate my dad riding through Johannesburg with a trailer. Apparently having a different car plate like a CAW one, puts a target on your back. And my dad drives a very red Jeep. So imagine our surprise when he got pulled over by 'police officers.' They got in his face with guns holstered to their sides and demanded that he followed them to the nearest police station to get arrested. Some excuse of having to much stuff in the back of the Jeep.
Now my dad was a paramedic in his day, and he happened to have worked in Johannesburg before in the same area. He realised as they drove, that they passed the nearest police station. In a panic state, my dad took the nearest turn to getaway. The 'police' were hot on his heels. He punctured a tire in his escape and was stranded on the side of the road.
Luckily, he was safe and we got to him in time to help. My family, baffled at the time, offered that we drove to the house in a team. One car in front and one at the back of the jeep. And whenever he got pulled over again, we could film it as well.
A few days after our little adventure, we learnt that it has happened before to other people. They took the people to an abandoned area of the city, only to rob them. They were also dressed as an officer, had the guns, the whole thing.
Welcome to Pretoria Secrets. Where stories aren't about my opinions anymore, but untold truth of this ugly city.
